Char’s Box
My name is Oliver, and I am an intern here at Mezzacello Urban Farm. I am in charge of taking care of, and feeding the animals. Speaking of animals, let me tell you about how we made the “Char Box,” for our pregnant rabbit Char.
The Char Box
The Char box is a nesting box we built for Char, who will give birth relatively soon. We started off by drawing a diagram on one of the whiteboards, and then we gathered materials. First, we got a wine box, and drilled holes in the lid. Next, we drilled a big opening in the front for Char to enter through. We attached it to char’s cage via a bolt, 2 washers, and a nut. Our first idea was 2 bricks, but Jim promptly denied that idea.
The Problems With The Char Box
So far, from our observations, Char seems to really appreciate the box. We put hay inside, and she’s been softening it by chewing on it. However, we’ve run into a couple of problems. First off, we can’t open the lid, as it is blocked by the cage walls.
Char is getting too much light in the box due to the entrance. At some point Jim will take care of that issue by adding an entry tunnel. All in all, the char box was a huge success, and she really appreciates it. Thank you for reading my blog post.
