This post is a section of my fantastic intern, Marcus’, presentation at Columbus Alternative High School. Marcus and I planned this presentation, and Marcus and I taught the first iteration. We succeeded and failed and now we know more. We will be presenting again next Wednesday.
Project Sustainability Energy and Ecology (SEE)
The 2025 Summer Camp Season was tied to two main initiatives. The first was officially launching the MenTern program at Mezzacello Urban Farm. The second was Project SEE which manifested as STEM Farming camps focused on sustainability, energy, and ecology.
Energy: From Stars to Stomachs
This is me and my intern, Marcus, teaching a classroom full of 6th and 7th graders the basics of Gravity, The Weak and Strong Atomic Forces, and the relationship between electricity and magnetism. We started with Google Maps to get kids to think about zooming in and looking at relevant and relative things with more thought. Then we zoomed in to the basics of our lesson.
How We Build Ecology, Technology, and Confidence Through Curriculum
At Mezzacello, we don’t recreate the wheel with new curriculum. We use the wheels of existing curriculum and build a new vehicle blending traditional Amish strategies and cutting edge STEM technology. This is how we do it.

Why I Use The Metric System at Mezzacello
Yeah. That's a real map. The United States of America, Liberia in Africa, and the pseudo-Communist state of Myanmar (Formerly Burma). That's it. 190 other nations around the world, and the area of Low-Earth orbit, the moon, Mars and every probe ever sent out into Space (with the exception of the NASA Mars Probe Mars Polar Orbiter (MPO)) use the Metric System. You should all learn from the fate of the MPO.
